Prince Amleth is on the verge of becoming a man when his father is brutally murdered by his uncle, who kidnaps the boy’s mother. Two decades later, Amleth is now a Viking who’s on a mission to save his mother, kill his uncle and avenge his father. In his first two films, The Witch and The Lighthouse, Robert Eggers exploded onto the scene with a very distinct, unique filmmaking style. Each was a period film with a genre spin, visualized with lush, muted colours, filled with elevated language and dense mythology that made them seem less like fiction and more like historical documents. The Northman is the evolution of this style and an epic story told with viscera intensity.
