Pee-wee Herman - Live at the Roxy
The Greatest live comedy show ever recorded! The Pee-wee Herman Show was the live, adult version of Pee-wee’s Playhouse, developed by Paul Reubens in 1980. It marks the first significant appearance of his comedic fictional character, Pee-wee Herman, five years before Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, and six years before Pee-wee’s Playhouse. The show initially debuted as a midnight show in February 1981 at the Groundlings Theatre, and was later moved to Los Angeles’ Roxy, where this was filmed. The show comes right out of the post punk underground art scene of early 1980s LA. Artist Gary Panter, who drew posters and flyers for the likes of The Germs and The Screamers, created the pop-art look of the show - he’d go on to win an Emmy for his designs, along with artist Wayne White.
